in effect

The Federal Government’s new Paid Parental Leave rules have kicked in, giving around 180,000 families a year more flexibility and support during an important stage of life.

From 1 July 2025:

Paid Parental Leave has increased from 20 to 24 weeks.

Parents can now take up to four weeks off at the same time (up from two weeks).

The scheme will grow further to 26 weeks by 1 July 2026.

Superannuation will be paid on Government Paid Parental Leave at the new 12% super guarantee rate.

The weekly payment rate has risen from $915.80 to $948.10, matching the National Minimum Wage increase, adding up to $775.20 more over the 24 weeks.
